[M4IF Technotes] MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AAC

I have downloaded the evaluation version of Easy Audio File Converter. I find that there are two output format options: MPEG2 AAC (.aac) and MPEG4 AAC (.mp4). The header of these files are not quite the same.
Can anyone tell me where I can find the differences between these?
