[Mp4-tech] Question on Carriage of LTC in MPEG -2 Streams

Dear All,
Question for the group.
A VTR Tape (D5, Digibeta, HDCAM SR)can carry an timecode via LTC (audio track)and VITC. When the tape gets encoded into MPEG (MPEG-2/MPEG-2 Transport), how does the M2T stream carry these timecodes if desired.
Is the picture user data structure = VBI or can it carry other things like LTC ?
Appreciate any feedback that I can get on this subject.
