Hi John,
I've read many times in various places (including the recent MPEG-4 White Paper) that a method of transport of MPEG-4 streams over IP and HTTP has been defined [by MPEG and IETF I assume]. However the only documentation I can find only specifies transport over RTP.
Does anyone have any pointers as to where I can find documentation for transport over general IP and HTTP? I am especially interested in the transport of Bifs and OD SL Packets, and a common way of mapping SL Packet Header info for protocols other than RTP, so as to ensure interoperability for these protocols.
If you use HTTP, I don't think you need to standardize anything, you just download your MP4 file and play it.
If you are smart enough you can do some progressive download so that you can play your file before it is completly received.
Concerning streaming over IP, I guess you mean UDP/IP, you can use MPEG-4 SLpacketized streams over UDP. Session description is not standardize but for streaming people generally just use RTP.
What are exactly your requirements ?
cu,
O.
