[M4IF Technotes] Query

Dear All,
I have an EXE that encodes MP3 or AAC files into an MP4 file. But I do not understand as to how does the decoder know that it is an MP3 file or an AAC file. I don't find any specific info such as '.mp3' or '.aac' written into the MP4 file. I just find that the media is of type 'soun' and has 'mp4a' in the sample description atom.
If such info can be put into the file, please let me know in which can I do this.
