Thanks for your answer but it seems that we are talking for different kind of
interoperability
An end user wants to buy and play content from different providers who protect
their content with different protection algorithms So the player should be able
to dynamically locate and download algorithms and licences This is what MPEG
IPMPX does (among other things) and for sure ISMACryp can be permanent resident
in an IPMPX player as long as the implementation signal it right, that is,
through the IPMP Extensions NOT through the hooks NOT through the file format
although ISMA give them as options for applications that does not need
interoperability

Panos,
The answer to your question comes in two parts.
The encryption which is selected is installed into the MPEG4IP project as
a replaceable module. MPEG4IP has client and server sides built into the
project, and both make use of this module. By encoding on the server side
(there is an encoding/encryption utility) and playing back on the client
side,
you achieve interoperability within the system. If you would like to use a
different encryption method, your desired encryption need only comply to the
format of the encryption module API and be compiled into the system.
(In the
future, we have plans to offer dynamic insertion as well, giving the user
the ability to use a different encryption module without having to link
with the entire system, using only header info).
The second piece to the puzzle is the support framework for the specifying
and signaling the encryption itself, which appears both in SDP and the
encrypted media. These were developed according to the ISMA specification
for encryption (ISMACryp), and we performed interop testing with a
number of
other ISMA companies to verify that we could play back other's encrypted
files
and that they could play back our encrypted files. These tests were
performed
LOCALLY, meaning that the media was present on the same hard drive as
the client,
and the client took its input from the hard drive (not from the network).
We can also playback encrypted STREAMED media (from the network, using our
client and server), but no interop testing has been done, as we were unable
to locate any other companies who had implemented the streaming part.
The entire project is open source, available on mpeg4ip.SourceForge.net,
(subject to the license detailed therein). We are in the stages of final
testing and will release this capability within the next month or so.
A null encryption module, which can serve as a template for other encryption
modules, will be supplied. In addition, documentation on where to obtain
the necessary AES-CTR mode module, and how to install it in the tree, is
provided. (AES-CTR is essentially available open source on SourceForge
as well, so we prefer not to replicate it).
