I mean if I have a wav file (6 seconds), can I know how many frames do the encoder will divide my wav file? 3)So, if the frame length is const, can I know the length of it? I highly appreciate if you can give me hint or guide for being able to separate the base layer from the enhacement layers. I was thinking of this approach, since the base layer is 16 kbps, and if the frame size length is known, for example 20 ms, so I was thinking of calculating how many bits will go for the base layer, and how many for the enhacement layers, so by tracing the encoded file (by looking into the bits), i can separate the base layer of each fram. is my approach correct ? James "Leontaris, Athanasios" wrote: Dear James, IMG_NUMBER stands for #define IMG_NUMBER (img->number - start_frame_no_in_this_IGOP) When the parameter input->NumFrameIn2ndIGOP is set to 0, the IMG_NUMBER returns 0 if the current frame is the first frame in the sequence, and is non-zero otherwise. IMG_NUMBER is primarily useful for differentiating between the first IDR intra-coded picture and Intra-coded pictures inserted within the sequence, as well as for making sure that the rate control works for interlaced coding. This is because the first frame that is composed of two fields may be encoded as I_SLICE (top) and P_SLICE (bottom). The pre-JM 12.0 rate control used a fixed pre-determined QP for all INTRA slices, which is not true anymore, as with RCUpdateMode=1, 2, and 3 one can apply rate control to INTRA slices at arbitrary points in the image sequence. Some of these changes were necessary in the original implementation to support these enhancements. However, we then restructured the code and some unnecessary operations may have still remained, which we have not completely cleaned up. This does not impact in any way the operation of the rate control (img->number is zero only for the first frame). Cleanups will be provided in future versions. I'd like to mark the pictures B1 and B3 with nal_ref_idc = 0, as they are never used as reference, and keep the size of the reference lists L0 and L1 always to 1 (num_ref_idx_lX_active_minus1 = 0). I have this problem when I have to encode the picture P8: the reference lists construction process for P-pictures put in first (and only) position of the reference list L0 the picture B2, that's the picture, previously marked as "used for reference", with the highest value of PicNum. I should instead use the picture P4 as reference. This problem doesn't exist for B pictures, as for them the reference lists are ordered according to POC (not PicNum). I thought about using a memory management control operation = 1 to mark the picture B2 as "unused for reference" after the decoding of picture B3, but this is not possible if I mark the picture B3 with nal_ref_idc = 0, because this condition prevents the call to any reference picture marking process. Does anyone know whether there is a simple way (i.e. memory management control operation or reference picture list reordering, etc.) to tell the decoder that the picture P4 has to be used as reference for P8, instead of B2? For normal files whose vop_width and vop_height is a multiple of 16 ,the reference frame area is vop_width x vop_height and if the motion vector points outside this area (UMV) then we have to pass the nearest pixel .This can be implemented by padding the frame all around with the last pel data. But what I am not sure about is that what is the reference frame area for files whose vop_width or vop_height is not a multiple of 16.In such a case what is the reference frame area ? Is it still vop_width x vop_height or is it vop_width x vop_height where both are the nearest multiples of 16 ?We will have to pad differently in these 2 cases - what I want to know is which interpretation is correct ? For example if we have a file of size 176 x 138 then is the ref frame area 176 x 138 ( we will have to pad from 139th row onwards) or is the ref frame area 176 x 144( we will now have to pad after the 144 th row) ? Actually I was already thinking about reordering the reference list L0, but what doesn't convince me is the fact that in that case I need to enlarge the size of the reference list L0, in order to be able to get the picture P4 and put it at the head of the list with the reordering operation. The problem is that, if I understand correctly the spec at the par. 8.2.4.3.1, the reordering works on the ref pic list, that doesn't contain the picture P4, rather than on the whole DPB (is this correct? Maybe the problem would be solved if the reordering was allowed to be performed on the whole DPB). Anyway, I think this won't be a big problem, so the solution could be to enlarge the reference picture list L0 size by updating the parameter num_ref_idx_l0_active_minus1, and to perform the reordering operation. In fact, even if the needed reference picture P4 does not appear in the reference list (which contains only one reference picture B2), a reordering operation will insert it in the reference list. For the syntax of the reordering operation, it depends whether P4 is a long or short term reference picture, but you will find attached a small good documents which explains at the end the reordering operations, illustrated with a good example. I hope I have answered your question. There are some other variations of the algorithm that I will not mention for concision. 1. For intra frames: compare the pixels of current_mb with pixels of the same location(previous_mb) in a preious intra-coded frame (possibly with neighbor pixels together, or compare the pixel pattern) 2. If the difference < threshold, coding current_mb with the intra-mode of previous_mb, or simply copy the bitstream of previous_mb(depends on the entropy coding scheme). 3 Otherwise do the intra-coding analysis as usual. This decoder is considerably faster and better organized. See here: http://iphome.hhi.de/suehring/tml/ With regards to running it, you may either use a configuration file or use the following format : Ldecod.exe -i bitstream.264 where bitstream.264 is the file you would like decode. With regards to bitstreams, you could either generate a bitstream of your own using the encoder which can be found within the same project or try to locate other files on your own. Test.264 is the "default" bitstream name that the encoder uses and you can rename it to whatever you want. Some bitstreams can be found here: http://ftp3.itu.ch/av-arch/jvt-site/draft_conformance/ Best regards, Alexis -----Original Message----- From: mp4-tech-bounces@lists.mpegif.org [mailto:mp4-tech-bounces@lists.mpegif.org] On Behalf Of Mayank Agarwal Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2024 10:22 PM To: mp4-tech@lists.mpegif.org Subject: [Mp4-tech] Building JM10.2 decoder code Hi all, I am tryong to run JM10.2 reference decoder code on Visual Studio. It has been mentioned in the Readme.txt to give decoder.cfg as argument. In decoder configuration file decoder.cfg test.264 is mentioned as the configuration file but this file is missing from the JM folder. Can anyone tell me how can i be able to build the reference code and also from where i can download H.264 encoded streams. If i want to give any other H.264 encoded stream as input to the decoder then how will i be able to do that. But I would like to answer, with the understanding I have. You mean to ask why LPS have a range 2 and MPS have range DRange-2? As far the knowledge I have, this (biari_encode_symbol_final() or decode_termination ()) is used for "end_of_slice" and "mb_type=I_PCM." If any one of this happens, the CABAC decoding needs to be terminated, followed by the reading the next syntax elements in the sequence, which are not encoded using CABAC. At time of decoding the binVal, the codlOffset will have 9 bits in it, which corresponds to the CABAC encoded syntax element. Next non-CABAC syntax elements should be read after this. If you look at the CABAC encoding side, keeping a range 2 for the LPS will lead to a renormalization process giving 7 bit output, (to reach from 2 to 256). Two more unambiguous bit are added to it. (Refer to ITU Document JVT-G050, on CABAC encoding ) At the decoding also the same range is used (same context model )and if binVal is 1(LPS), CABAC decoding is terminated and value in the codlOffset is discarded. The next non-CABAC coded syntax element can be read from the bit stream. So it appears that keeping Range =2 for LPS, leading to 7 bit by renormalization, plus extra 2 bits (one to indicate rbsp_stop_one_bit for the slice) will automatically adjust the CABAC to non-CABAC stream boundary enabling easy alignment at decoder. At the decoder if the binval is 1, decode terminate will not execute renormalisation, and decoder will not read more bits than produced by the encoder for the slice. (Refer to ITU Document JVT-G050, on CABAC decoding ) This is the explanation I have on your query with my limited knowledge. More query, you may better ask the creators of CABAC!!!! regards Pradeep Kumar P Patni Computers System Ltd SEEPZ, Mumbai. -----Original Message----- From: mp4-tech-bounces@lists.mpegif.org [mailto:mp4-tech-bounces@lists.mpegif.org] On Behalf Of mp4-tech-request@lists.mpegif.org Sent: Thursday, March 15, 2024 9:42 PM To: mp4-tech@lists.mpegif.org Subject: Mp4-tech Digest, Vol 44, Issue 15 Send Mp4-tech mailing list submissions to mp4-tech@lists.mpegif.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.mpegif.org/mailman/listinfo/mp4-tech or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to mp4-tech-request@lists.mpegif.org You can reach the person managing the list at mp4-tech-owner@lists.mpegif.org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Mp4-tech digest..." But I do not remember where I obtained. Can anybody help me to locate the web site or ftp site that I can obtain such test streams? b. Allegro Allegro (I think independent from any international organization) sells some 'certified' bitstreams for decoder testing. I saw their web site and found they developed own encoder and produced bunch of bitstreams. Are those bitstreams widely used? How good are they? I do not have any of their bitstreams, and I want to know more in details. c. other than Allegro, I know couple of other companies also sell bitstreams (not just for H.264 but also MPEG2...). Standard specifies max DPB per level. HRD assumes buffer management (CPB, DPB) is done instantly (meaning zero delay), but actually it is not possible (for physical implementation). Now, in case DBP, DBP needs to be managed as described in the standard. They say for actual decoder design, decoder needs to have 2xDPB to handle worst case DPB bumping. I guess it could happen at the boundary of IDR, perhaps because IDR makes DBP reset, but all the frames in DPB have not yet been displayed and those not-yet-displayed frames need to be saved outside of DPB. Is my understanding correct? If yes, then can this extream case actually happen? I mean within standard and actual (well, some pathological encoder might make such case...). Any comment? When an IDR picture arrives, all pictures that were previously in the DPB are marked as "not used for reference". But that doesn't mean that they are not counted against the total DPB capacity. They still count until their output times arrive, in timing conformance scenarios. This means that an IDR picture does not entirely "wipe clean" the internal state of a (time-driven) decoder (except when the no_output_of_prior_pics_flag is equal to 1 or is inferred to be equal to 1). It only wipes clean the ability to use prior pictures as references. Now there are differences between timed decoding and bumping decoding that are relevant here too. Most decoders would probably want to achieve timed decoding conformance, not just output order conformance. For output order conformance, there is no (official) need to worry about the extra pictures in the DPB when and IDR picture arrives, because they can all be bumped out once the IDR arrives. It is guaranteed that the output time of any picture that arrived prior to the IDR picture must precede the output time of the IDR picture and any pictures that follow it. But timing conforming decoders need to keep pictures around until their output times arrive, which may be after the decoding times of the IDR picture and some pictures that follow it. The the number of allowed slices increases if the decoder is given more time to decode a picture (as measured by the difference between decoding times, i.e., between CPB removal times). If fixed_frame_rate_flag is 1 (so the sequence is fixed at the maximum frame rate which in this case is 25 fps at 720x576 picture size), then it is true that the *average* number of slices per picture over a (very) long period of time cannot exceed 22. But there's a difference between talking about the average over time and talking about the limit on any particular picture. The constraint is imposed on a per picture basis, based on the amount of time between decoding timestamps (CPB removal times). For that picture size (720x756), the decoding times of frames can't be closer together than 1/25th of a second (for level 3). But if the decoding times are farther apart, the number of allowed slices for the picture increases. The limit is really more time-based than picture-based. I think the maximum NAL unit size for a VCL NAL unit of Main profile Level 3 is about 1,250,000 bytes when using CABAC (assuming the presence of a maximal amount of cabac_zero_word syntax elements in the NAL unit, making the limit effectively the full CPB capacity), and about 650,000 bytes when using CAVLC (assuming hitting the limit of 400 bytes per macroblock for every macroblock, plus a maximal-size slice header). A non-VCL NAL unit can be bigger -- about 1,500,000 bytes, I think. In the extreme CABAC case, the excess cabac_zero_word syntax elements and their associated emulation prevention bytes can just be discarded (by the decoder) if they arrive, to bring the limit back down to be essentially the same as for CAVLC. But there is a constraint based on time also. If the quantity of data in the set of NAL units for a picture is bigger than 311,040 bytes (720x576*1.5 divided by MinCR, where MinCR = 2) for level 3, then the decoder must be given proportionally more than 1/25th of a second of time to decode the picture. This aspect is somewhat similar to slice rate. If the decoder is given more time to decode the data, the quantity of bytes or slices can increase. The problem is that looking in the test streams directory from http://standards.iso.org/ittf/PubliclyAvailableStandards/ISO_IEC%2014496 -4_2004_Amd_8_2005_Bitstreams/SBR_CONFORMANCE_1.zip , there are some tests such as al_sbr_cm* , al_sbr_sig_*, and al_sbr_sr_* which are mentioned in README_SBR_CONFORMANCE.TXT as part of batch testing but are not handled by conCriteria table in ct_sbrdecoderConfTool.c of the sbr conformance utility in neither of these versions. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? Regards, Barak P.S. In addition to earlier question about missing parametric stereo al_sbr_ps* support in the same sbr conf utility, I have found http://ftp2.ansi.org/download/free_download.asp?document=ISO%2FIEC+14496 %2D4%2FAmd11%2FCor2%3A2007 document with updated Diff/RMS values, but It seems that conCriteria table needs to contain different values for each test, so this aspect is also not clear. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... (r4, q4) be the rate and PSNR corresponding to these four quants for the codec you are worked on. Let (r*1, q*1), ..., (r*4, q*4) be those for the baseline codec you want to compare with. (1) use Lagrange interpolation (be carefur for truncation error) to derive a, b, c, d as shown in VCEG-M33 on four points (10 * log(ri), qi) for i = 1, 2, 3, 4. You then obtain the curve C1 for your codec. (2) do the same for the baseline codec to obtain the RD curve C* for the baseline codec. (3) compute the integral on C and C* from min(r1, r2, r3, r4) to max(r1, r2, r3, r4). (4) take the absolute difference of the integral value and divided by max(r1, r2, r3, r4) - min(r1, r2, r3, r4) (5) you get BDPSNR You can apply the same steps with coordinates switched to obtain BDBR (normally either BDPSNR or BDBR is sufficient for comparison). However, for BDBR, the actual rate difference in percentage is calculated as: (Note that there is a typo in the second formula in VCEG-M33 Sec. 4.1, the left hand-side is 'bit' instead of 'SNR') beta * (10^0.1 - 1) * 100, where beta is the value of BDBR in logarithmic scale as computed above following the similar steps of (1) to (5). In VCEG-M33, 0.05 dB = 1% literally means an increase of 0.05 dB in PSNR is tantamont to 1% increase of bitrate (in terms of PSNR video quality). In other words, your codec has an improvement of PSNR by 0.05 dB, that could also be achieved by increase the bitrate by 1%. You probably already understands why it is so (applying the same steps as above to compute the delta of PSNR and delta of BR). As a side note, if the Quant step size is too big (rarely in practice though), probably mid-range average difference does make sense. My case that i have file a.wav is the reference file,I have encoded it using BSAC codecs using 64kbps bit rate, then I have decoded it , so the output is b.wav. if I listen to both files, they are very similar, but If I used the PQeval tool I got -3.9 score? I noticed that there is a comment which says" that this tool assumes that the two files have been time and gain aligned, Use ComAudio to determine the required gain and dely compensation, and CopyAudio to actually modify the gain and time-Aligne the files". So I realized that maybe I have to do that for my case.
