[Mp4-tech] relation between dpb size and level idc

Hello experts,
                    I am using the JM 11.0 code for H264 encoder. Can anyone
please tell me is there any relation between dpb size and the number of
reference frames defined. or it is only related with the level idc??
for your reference, for qcif image size I gave number of reference frame as
1 and level idc as 30 i.e 3.0, for this combination dpb size is coming as 16
and it is storing previous 16 frames in dpb.
so is it any how related with the number of reference frames?
