[M4IF News] Call for H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC patents announced

All,
It has just come to my attention that MPEG LA is calling for
essential MPEG-4 AVC/ H.264 patents, with the aim to come
to a joint license soon.

The schedule is very aggressive. Submssions of patents by
Oct 11th, first round of evaluations by Nov 11th. 
I hope that indeed for this standard, things will go much and
much faster than they did for MPEG-4 part 1 and 2. Given all
that was learnt in the past 3 years, this must be possible.
Also, I hope that the parties concerned will take market feedback 
on the current license into account when determining the terms
for the new license.
