[M4IF Discuss] Dispute won't clock QuickTime 6 -- ZDNET

You should not underestimate the enormous effort
Apple put into supporting MPEG-4. It is considerably
more than just 'a codec'. Their is a lot of back-end
support too. It will also not be simple to untangle
that all.
Also note that there is confusing and wrong information
in the press about "Apple supporting Dolby's AAC codec".
This is about MPEG-4 AAC, which was invented by MPEG,
not Dolby. Dolby acts as a licensing agent for 5 patent
holders. Apple had it on the OSX website as "ACC", which
didn't help either, but that has been corrected in the
meantime, although it still is confusing to read "MPEG-4
Video and AAC Audio". It's MPEG-4 Video and Audio.
(And I can't wait to upgrade my iMac !)
Best,
Rob
