I've once done this experiment for fun with the MPEG-4 codec of QuickTime
(for a test sequence of 600 frames with a resolution of 1280x720, YUV
4:2:0). It worked but I don't want to know all the rules I was violating
then ;-). The only thing you have to worry about is getting the YUV
samples in the mov file format. I've written some code for that but I
guess there are also other solutions.
The reference software for H.264/MPEG-4 AVC should also be able to deal
with that.
