The ISO/IEC final FDIS ballot closed last Tuesday October 21st on ISO/IEC 14496-10 Advanced Video Coding (a.k.a. MPEG-4 AVC). There were no negative votes.
Here is a summary of the results:
- Yes votes from 22 Participating-Members
- Yes votes from 4 Observer-Members (Poland, Russian Federation, Spain, and Ukraine)
- Abstension from 1 Participating-Member (South Africa)
- Abstensions from 2 Observer-Members (Brazil and Malaysia)
The required thresholds for approval are:
- A minimum of 2/3 of the Participating-Members that vote Yes or No must vote Yes. This requirement was exceeded, with 100% approval.
- No more than 1/4 of all members that vote may vote No. This requirement was exceeded, with 0% disapproval.
Many thanks to MPEG and its P-Members and O-Members, and Congratulations to the JVT!
The initial standardization process for this specification is now completely over. It's up to others now, such as the members of MPEG‑IF, to transform this important new standard from a finished document into market-deployed robust high-performance interoperable products.
Best Regards,
