Thanks Gary,
this is great news. Congratulations to the (joint video) team
and to its leaders: you, Thomas Wiegand and Ajay Luthra.
MPEGIF has added AVC to its 5th round of interoperability testing,
and several members and other companies already showed impressive
technology demonstrations during IBC in Amsterdam in September.
In anticipation of (and as a condition for) widescale deployment,
we are eagerly awaiting resolution of the licensing situation.
There has been news from VIA Licensing already, and we hope to
hear from MPEG LA soon as well, after their pre-announcement in
September.
In the spirit of the work that produced this important standard:
Assembling the essential image coding experts in a single joint
team was the key to the creation of the standard.
Assembling the essential patents in a reasonable single joint
license will be the key to its adoption.
Kind Regards,
Rob Koenen
President, MPEGIF
