MPEG-4 News Readers,

Last week things were slow to pick up again after NAB. In week 17 - this week- there will be significantly more news.Promise! (Or just go check the website)

Still, there are some noteworthy facts. The week after BBC and Envivio announced a trial with MPEG-4 Systems technology, two more independent MPEG-4 Systems tool sets were released: freely downloadable "Osmo4" by ENST from Paris, and "TVM4" by TVIA which also has a freely downloadable player. The licensing situation in MPEG-4 Visual lingers on as something to write about, witness be two articles referenced below.

M4IF will hold its next (annual) membership meeting on 26 and 27 June in Montreal. Details online in a day or two. Contact Paul Ritchie (see CC) if you are interested in joining M4IF and want to sample this meeting.

M4IF is working with Streaming Media on Streaming Media New York, May 6-8. M4IF Members get significant discounts.

ISO recently published Amendment 2 to Part 5 of MPEG-4, "Reference software". This contains the Reference Software for XMT, The eXtensible MPEG-4 Textual format. I am not sure when it will be available for free download.

Kind Regards,
Rob Koenen
