MPEGIF currently has a number of public mailing lists. You can subscribe to all of these below. We advise that you at least subscribe to the News list. We will be adding MPEG-7 and MPEG-21 related technical lists in the near future.
The 'News' list is for general information and news around emerging MPEG standards. It has many members, and is only used for major announcements and our weekly digest of relevant news and press releases. Traffic is limited to one or two messages a week. This list is strictly moderated. MPEGIF wants to keep this list's membership as broad as possible, and not scare people away by inundating them with messages. [News List Archives] [Digest Archives]
The 'MP4-Tech' list is for technical questions and answers on MPEG-4, including DMIF, Systems, Audio, Video, Conformance Testing, etc. Traffic averages 5-6 messages a day. Posting is restricted to members, so you will not receive spam from this list. People that do spam the list will be put on 'moderated' or removed. NOTE: Please use clear subject lines for your posts to this list. Include [audio, [video], [systems], [general] or another apppropriate identifier to indicate the type of question you have. The 'MP7-Tech' list is for technical questions and answers on MPEG-7. Posting is restricted to members, so you will not receive spam from this list. People that do spam the list will be put on 'moderated' or removed. [mp7-tech Archives]
The 'Discuss' list is for non-technical discussions about anything that is relevant to MPEGIF's goal: the widespread adoption of emerging MPEG standards. The initial trigger for starting the list was the announcement of licensing terms for the MPEG-4 Visual standard, but discussions will not be restricted to this issue. Posting is restricted to members, so you will not receive spam from this list. People that do spam the list will be put on 'moderated' or removed. Traffic is usually lowest on this list, but may be very high when there is something to discuss. When the list started, early February 2002, traffic averaged 10 messages a day.
