Sunday, April 27, 2024 - MPEG-4 News Digest week 17, 2003

MPEG-4 News Readers,

As promised in last week's digest, there is more news this week -- for starters, from the licensing front . Via Licensing published the terms for MPEG-4 Audio - not just AAC, but also other Profiles. Good news, albeit a tad late. A day later, they announced a Call for essential patents for the MPEG-7 standard. Let's hope that the lessons from MPEG-4 will lead to faster availability of licenses to essential MPEG-7 patents.

In the News section, a couple of product reviews and some speculation. Broadcast Engineering published a special section on MPEG-4 for NAB; now also available online. Our NAB2003 Archive is still being updated with articles and interviews.

M4IF will hold its next (annual) membership meeting on 26 and 27 June in Montreal. Contact Paul Ritchie (see CC) if you are interested in joining M4IF and want to sample this meeting.

A reminder that an archive of  these digests can be found online on M4IF's website.

Kind Regards,
Rob Koenen
