MPEGIF > Interoperability > Round 6

    MPEGIF Interoperability WG

MPEGIF Interoperability Working Group has the mandate to organize and execute interoperability tests for current and emerging MPEG standards. The group has completed five rounds of testing, and the sixth round is currently underway (see summary below). Previous test rounds have been based mostly on file exchange, with encoding companies generating and posting bitstream and MP4 files, and decoding companies testing the files and reporting on the results. The group provides a collaborative environment in which companies may discover and correct interoperability problems before products go to market.

For a brief history of MPEGIF Interoperability Working Group (and its relationship to the new MPEGIF Logo Qualification Program), please view the summary presentation .

Summary of 6th Interoperability Test Round

The latest round of testing includes support for AVC/H.264 visual, High Efficiency AAC Audio, and AAC BSAC. The test round began in mid October 2004, and is expected to conclude in December 2004. A face-to-face test event will take place in December, jointly organized between ISMA, MPEGIF, and IMTC.

    5. Test schedule

    DATE PLAN DETAIL
October 21, 2004 CONFERENCE CALL Initial planning call
October 25, 2004 POSTING BEGINS Companies have 2 weeks to post bitstreams and MP4 files
November 8, 2004 TESTING BEGINS Companies have 2 weeks to do initial testing and report a first round of results.
November 19, 2004 INITIAL RESULTS REPORTED Deadline for companies to report initial results in the test round
November 22, 2004 CORRECTION PERIOD BEGINS Companies communicate to correct problems, retesting and reposting files as needed. By the end of this period, we expect general interoperability, with few if any problems remaining.
December 6-9, 2004 ISMA/MPEGIF/IMTC JOINT EVENT This event gives companies a chance to work out any existing file exchange problems with face-to-face communication. For interested companies, AVC and H.E. AAC transport could be tested.
December 17, 2004 CORRECTION PERIOD ENDS Test round is officially over. Interoperability WG will prepare a summary of participation and results. Participating companies are eligible to complete Logo Qualification (i.e. their interop requirement is fulfilled)
